Joseph R. D. Loescher graduated from Alaska Methodist University in 1972 and received his JD from Willamette University College of Law in 1979. He is admitted to the practice of law in the states of Alaska and Washington, and in federal courts in the Federal District Court for Alaska, the Western Washington Federal District Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In his more than 25 years of practice he has represented individuals, small businesses, and some of the world’s largest corporations. He has tried cases that have ranged from one day to five months. In addition to trial work, he is experienced in handling appeals on a variety of matters including administrative law, criminal defense, environmental law, family law, natural resource law and general litigation.
Environmental cases have involved liability under CERCLA as well as under Alaska’s and Washington’s mini-CERCLA statutes (AS 46.03.822 & RCW 70.1 05D). Cases have involved asbestos contamination, lead and zinc contamination, gas station contamination, groundwater contamination, a battery disposal site, and a contaminated school bus facility.
His civil litigation experience also has encompassed construction claims, the crash of a Lear jet, personal injury claims (both plaintiff and defense) and family law, including intra-state child custody disputes and juvenile law. Criminal defense cases have included assault, armed robbery, drugs, perjury, sexual assault, and wire fraud.
